All fruits and vegetables that we tested can make electricity. The electrodes react with the juice inside the fruits and vegetables to create electricity. The best electrodes are zinc and copper. The best fruit is an apple. The best vegetable is a carrot. The further apart the electrodes were the more electricity it could make.

Updated November 09, 2019. By Maggie Vink. Though it's certainly not a practical way to light your home, you can generate electricity from fruit. The acid in fruit interacts with electrodes to create a small amount of voltage. Creating a fruit battery is an interesting experiment to try with school-age children.

Vegetable, fruit waste can produce electricity Think about all the fruit and vegetable waste left behind during harvest, lying unused and unwanted in farm fields and processing plants. Not only does it literally go to waste, it often takes time and labor to get rid of it. But what if all that unused produce could be turned into energy?

You may be young to really understand much of this, Thalia, but a fruit or vegetable doesn't exactly produce electricity, it just provides a conductive liquid that completes the circuit. To take it one step at a time, look at the diagram. As it is shown -- fruit or no fruit -- the bulb will light because there is a battery and a complete circuit.

Citrus fruits are acidic, which helps their juice to conduct electricity. What other fruits and vegetables might work as batteries? Would fruit juice minus the fruit work as an electrolyte? Procedure. Prepare the fruits for this project by squeezing them on all sides with the hands. Make sure not to squeeze too tightly and break the skin! Stick the zinc electrode all the way into the first fruit to be tested. Place the copper electrode on the opposite side.

3 how are turbines used to generate electricity?

Most of U.S. and world electricity generation is from electric power plants that use a turbine to drive electricity generators. In a turbine generator, a moving fluid—water, steam, combustion gases, or air—pushes a series of blades mounted on a rotor shaft. The force of the fluid on the blades spins/rotates the rotor shaft of a generator.
